20 things. 20 people. 20 days. 20 things. 20 people. 20 days.

20 things. 20 people. 20 days.

The 20 Things project began on a sleepless night in May 2001. I'd imagined a small online art gallery, where artists who'd been working mostly with pixels lately could return to or explore more tangible media and trade them for other physical art objects. People expressed interest, and soon more than 2500 people had signed up for the mailing list. As of March 2003, the volume of interest has resulted in a slight process change, where I now screen art submissions based on an email proposal. It is my hope that this does not discourage people from submitting their work.

We've been noticed:

+ The New York Times mentioned us (along with nervousness.org) in an Online Diary Column about mail art. 04.03

+ The Sydney Morning Herald had a nice blurb about our tattoo contest. We promise that we're going to actually print up those tattoos one of these days.07.02

+ Coolstop picked 20 Things as a pick of the day. We felt cool. 05.02

+ Shift 66 has a great story on interactive art, featuring 20 Things and the terrific 1000 Journals and Freewords projects. (featuring art by Sue Oakes and Mark Carpenter) 05.02

+ The second issue of Readymade featured a great article on artist's books, with a small bit about 20 Things (featuring art by Jessamyn West) 04.02

We could not have done any of this without:

+ Bryan Boyer, php rockstar genius.
+ Anil Dash, css rockstar genius.
+ Heather Champ, Steve Cook, Mark Anderson, Caterina Fake, and the rest of the well-wishers and idea-bouncer-offers and deep-breath-offerers and backup singers that make my life so delightful.

And finally, though I am abysmally delinquent in returning the favor, you should know that my day is so very enlivened when you write to me. Judith
